Hello, county mayors and executives. I sit here today looking outside at our recent snowfall and hoping that the cold of winter is almost over. We have just completed our TCSA County Government Day conference. We had a great turnout with numerous mayors, commissioners, and road superintendents all across our state.
Our ACM executive board and general membership meeting was well attended. Mayor Freddie O’Connell of Davison County welcomed our membership, and we were also fortunate to have Senator Ken Yager attend both meetings. Senator Yager participated in our meetings, giving us valuable insight to bills that are filed and the bills intended purpose. For those of you who were unable to attend, we had a lengthy discussion on the chances of passage for the real estate transfer tax.
This important bill has now been filed in the Senate by Senator Jack Johnson as SB1080 and in the House by Representative Pat Marsh as HB649. We are fortunate to have these two prominent legislators sponsor this important legislation and we need to thank and encourage them. Senator Yager stated he fully supports this bill and was the one of the first senators to endorse and cosign the bill. I want to personally think Senator Yager for his commitment and support in helping with our initiative and county government. I strongly believe we have a very good chance of passing this legislation.
I’ve included a chart of what this revenue would mean for your county. This information was also shared at TCSA’s County Government Day this week. Please take the time to make an appointment and meet in person with your legislators. As you speak with your legislators I would appreciate your feedback. We can accomplish our goal when working as a team . Keep up the great work!
As always, I’m looking forward to seeing you all at TCSA’s Legislative Conference in Gatlinburg. More information on that conference will be shared soon. If you have positive news and accomplishments in your county, please let me know. I would love to share you accomplishments and your best practices with other mayors across our state.
