TN Dept. of Education Holds Public Hearing on TISA Rules
July 29, 2022
Yesterday, the Tennessee Department of Education held a public rulemaking hearing on proposed rules to implement the Tennessee Investment In Student Achievement (TISA) Act. The formula that was passed by the General Assembly earlier this year left many details up to the department to flesh out through a series of rules. A draft of proposed rules was promulgated on June 6th. A copy of the proposed rules as well as public comments received by the department can be found HERE.
At the public hearing yesterday at the Ellington Agricultural Center in Nashville, numerous presenters, including parents, teachers, activists and legislators, appeared in person or joined the session online to make their statements. Each speaker was limited to 3 minutes each. The hearing lasted for around an hour and a half, with many of the commentators critical of various aspects of the rules.
The department will continue to receive comments through Tuesday, August 2, 2022.
