Attorney General Opinions
Relating to County Government

2005 Planning & Zoning

  • A regional planning commission may seek funding from the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development, may seek grants, or may be funded under an agreement among the local governments within the region.  No statute requires a city or county to fund the regional planning commission at a particular level. Opinion No. 05-057 (April 20, 2005).
  • Local governments are authorized to regulate junkyards under T.C.A. §§ 54-20-109 and 54-20-122.  A private act is an appropriate way to put such regulations in place.  The private act would have to be compatible with the general law.  Opinion No. 05-032 (March 29, 2005).
