2007 Notaries/Acknowledgements

• A notary public is a state official, not a county official.  Complaints of criminal misconduct by a notary should be referred to the appropriate law enforcement agency in the city or county in which the alleged conduct occurred.  Notaries may be removed from office through the ouster process.  Opinion No. 07-157 (November 26, 2007).
