2006 Metropolitan Government

• A metro government must be adopted under T.C.A. § 7-1-101 et seq., or under 7-21-101 et seq., as applicable.  It cannot be adopted by citizens’ referendum.  A metro charter could provide for a city manager as long as it complies with the requirements of the applicable statutes.  Opinion No. 06-100 (June 12, 2006).
