2007 Ethics

• Water and wastewater treatment authorities that are established by a county or metropolitan government fall within the definition of “county” as defined in 8-17-102(a)(1) and therefore would be governed by the ethics policies adopted by the county legislative body.  Opinion No. 07-065 (May 14, 2007).  Note, however, that 2007 Public Chapter 405 changes the law effective June 11, 2007 to provide that water and wastewater authorities created by a private act or under the general law will be considered separate governmental entities governed by ethical standards established by the governing board of the water or wastewater under T.C.A. § 8-17-105(b).
