2015 County Clerks

• A school bus owned by a private contractor and operated under contract with the county to provide transportation to students attending county schools should be registered under T.C.A. § 55-4-112(a), with the fee depending on the vehicle’s seating capacity.  Opinion No. 15-53 (June 25, 2015).

• A current or former elected official meeting the requirements of T.C.A. § 36-3-301 to solemnize a marriage in Tennessee is not authorized by that statute to solemnize a marriage ceremony outside Tennessee.  Opinion No. 15-47 (June 3, 2015).

• Attorney General Opinion U97-041, in which the Attorney General opined that ministers of the Universal Life Church are not permitted to solemnize marriages because they are not ordained by a considered, deliberate, and responsible act, remains valid.  Opinion No. 15-14 (February 6, 2015).
